STUNNING SUCCESSES and a frequently asked question
We congratulate our senior students who achieved most pleasing results in the 2010 NCEA examinations.
90.00% of our Year 11 students attained a Level 1 certificate with 53% receiving an Excellence or Merit endorsement.
89.63% of our Year 12 students attained a Level 2 certificate with 45.3% receiving an Excellence or Merit endorsement.
88.40% of our Year 13 students attained a Level 3 certificate with 46.3% receiving an Excellence or Merit endorsement.
Scholarships were acheived across a range of 5 subjects: Classical Studies, English, History, Biology and Art History. A total of 12 scholarships (including one 'Outstanding') were attained by our 2010 Year 13 cohort of 95 students.
The data speaks for itself. Behind the data is a group of girls, their families and their teachers who together create this success.
The most frequently asked question is "How does Marist College do it?"
The answer is complex and made up of a number of contributing factors - seven years of scaffolded learning, a spiral curriculum which seeks to be seamless, a range of subject choices which provide choices so all may succeed and differentiated learning programmes.
Add to the mix the hardwork of the students and of their teachers, the support of their families, the school's culture of excellence combined with the spirit of community which connects us and the willingness of everyone to stretch themselves to help others to reach their goal.
We call it 'Marist Spirit'.
Congratulations to you, the Board of Trustees, staff and students of Marist College on your first place ranking amongst Auckland schools offering NCEA, as determined by the analysis undertaken by Metro in their July / August 2010 issue.
The College community can feel very proud of your achievements as the analysis was robust covering retention rates, achievement at Level 2, Merit and Excellence endorsements and Scholarship results over the past three years according to the schools decile. Being placed at the top of hte 75 schools in the listing is an outstanding achievement and a credit to the commitment and hard work of all involved.
As the article also reported our Catholic secondary schools in Auckland are achieving highly in comparison to other state, intergrated and private schools. I believe this highlights that the Catholic Special Character and the charism of our schools are providing students with an environment and ethos where excellence is recognised as a Gospel value.
